Pension in Bulgaria

Which are the reasons for that?

The legislation in Bulgaria allows foreign pensioners to reside legally in the country in case they have their own dwelling and on condition that they receive sufficient pension 
(art. 24, subpara. 10 of the Foreign Nationals Act of the Republic of Bulgaria).

2. In addition, senior citizens feel comfortable here due to the similar mentalities and cultures;

3. Price levels here are lower than those in the cities in the territory of EU, so pensioners can provide for themselves everything they need;

4. The rhythm of life in Bulgaria is calm and lacking stress. The intact nature, mild climate, clean air and the diversity of healthcare establishments contribute to the maintenance of a good health condition.


The Migration Directorate will review your documents and will
issue a residence card  within about 3-4 weeks. With this card a foreigner is granted permission to stay in the Republic of Bulgaria for a period of 1 year. 

An Alien Identification Number is also assigned to the foreign national. The residence card contains information about the cardholder, the grounds on which permission had been granted, the length of authorised stay, digital signatures and fingerprints. This is the main identification document of a foreign national in Bulgaria. 


After the expiration of the card and the authorised period of stay, it is subject to renewal at the Migration Directorate at the location of the foreigner’s
residence address in Bulgaria).
